Expected Birds
These are the species a birder should expect to see in Essex county should enough time be spent out in the field birding, different habitats, etc..
You can choose which subset of species information to view by clicking on ESSEX (entire county), PBA (the Pelee Birding Area which includes Hillman Marsh), or PPNP (birds seen within the boundaries of Point Pelee National Park).
If you are birding in a location with a weak signal on your phone or other mobile device, click on thebutton in the top right corner to access the low-bandwidth version of Expected Birds. This screen displays the same information without photos and other items that require a stronger signal. You may want to bookmark this page for whenever you are in the field with a weak signal. Clicking on the on the low bandwidth page returns you to the full bandwidth version.
For more detailed information on any of the Expected Species, click on the Species Info button:
Here you can view record early/late dates, high counts and more. This information is available for all of Essex County, the Pelee Birding Area and for Point Pelee National Park by clicking on the respective dropdowns.
Rare Birds
Species listed on this page are considered 'rare' in Essex county. These birds are not necessarily seen in any given year, many of them only have one or a handful of recorded sightings in the county.
As with Expected Species, you can choose which subset of species information to view on the Rare Bird page by clicking the appropriate subset button.
There is also a low-bandwidth version of the Rare Birds page, accessible by clicking on the button in the top right corner. As with the low-bandwidth version of Expected Species, you may want to bookmark this page for whenever you are in the field with a weak signal. Clicking on the on the low bandwidth page returns you to the full bandwidth version.
